Dive Into The Thames' Past With Greenwich FROGs

Greenwich FROGs

A group of foreshore archeaologists are holding a free evening of talks in Greenwich, to give the public an insight into the work they do.

The Greenwich FROGs (Foreshore Recording and Observation Group) – a group of trained volunteers who study the archaeology along the Thames foreshore – will be talking about the work they've done this year. Particular focus has been on the stretch of river from the Old Royal Naval College to the power station.

Parts of this stretch of the river have been designated Scheduled Ancient Monuments by English Heritage. There are remains from prehistory to the Victorian period, including features which were part of the Tudor Palace, but it’s all being eroded incredibly fast. Greenwich FROGs  are recording it as it is being lost to the river.

After the talks there will be a chance to chat to the FROGs and learn more about the history of Greenwich over a drink or some food.

The event starts at 7.30 pm on 27 November, upstairs at the Cutty Sark pub, 4-6 Ballast Quay, Greenwich. Tickets are free but need booking in advance.
