Classic Car Boot Sale Returns To Southbank Centre

Last year’s Classic Car Boot Sale, sketched by Lis Watkins

This weekend, Southbank Centre hosts a car boot sale with a twist. Forget rummaging around in the boot of an old Ford Escort hoping to find a rusty saucepan or chipped ornament. The Classic Car Boot Sale offers a chance to buy retro clothing, accessories, household goods, memorabilia and vinyl records - all displayed in vintage vehicles parked up beside the Thames.

If you're not one for rummaging, or don't know your treasure from your tat, fear not, there are plenty of other goings on, including fairground rides and street theatre. We're particularly looking forward to jitterbugging away to the sound of vinyl records being played from onboard an open-air Routemaster.

Foodies are also well catered for (pun intended), with a feast of international street-food traders, from the Mexican offerings of Taco Truck, to Rainbo's Japanese dumplings, to drinks served from the window of a VW camper van.

The first such event took place in October last year and we heard reports of queues and large crowds so, if you can bear to give up your weekend lie-in we think it'll be worth it to get ahead of everyone else. If you want to look the part vintage attire is also encouraged.

Classic Car Boot Sale takes place this weekend, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March from 10am-6pm outside the Southbank Centre. Entry costs £4 per person per day, pay on the door.
