‘Shoreditch Village’ Plan Approved

The proposal for Shoreditch Village, a mixed-use development either side of the Overground viaduct that runs north from Shoreditch High Street station, has been given the municipal thumbs-up by Hackney council.

The space is currently used as a car park, though it also hosted last year’s Hackney House. Under the plans a number of new buildings will be constructed, comprising a hotel, a handful of flats and around a dozen retail units. The scheme retains two façades that face out onto Shoreditch High Street, but behind that Georgian veneer it’s all strictly 21st-century business: glass and steel buildings, showrooms and a food market.

Shoreditch Village is designed by local practice EllisMiller, and construction is expected to begin early 2014, with the space opening the following year.
