London's Longest Pub Crawl Visits Every Tube Station

The Albert, chosen pub at Notting Hill Gate.

We thought we were on a bit of a mission, organising monthly pub crawls that follow the alphabet (part O to be announced next week, by the way). But then we heard from Sam Cullen. To celebrate the Underground's 150th birthday, he's spending the year visiting a pub near every tube station, all 270 of them.

He's chronicling this epic mission on his blog INNside Track. At first glance, you might think he's doing it in random order — the last four were West Kensington, Earl's Court, Royal Oak and Mansion House. But look closely, and you'll see there's a temporal element to his intemperate odyssey: he's visiting the stations in the order in which they opened, starting with Paddington, from which the first train rolled in 1863, and ending with Wood Lane, which opened in 2008 (unless he takes longer than expected, in which case he'll need to look out for new stations on the Metropolitan and Northern lines in coming years).

Sam's keen to hear from readers with any tips — know the best boozer in Chalfont & Latimer? Where might the thirsty throat be sated in Hornchurch? And which of the many exceptional options would you recommend at Holborn or Borough? Do send suggestions through to Sam via his blog or Twitter (@Innsidetrack). Cheers!
