Bits Of London Bridge Station Will Move To Wales

Roof sections from London Bridge station will be transplanted to Aberystwyth, to form part of a new railway museum building. The Vale of Rheidol Railway will receive several columns, beams and roof elements from the station's barrel-arched section, following redevelopment work at London Bridge.

The station is central London's oldest terminus, opening in 1836. The aged complex is being redeveloped as part of a £6 billion project. The excised structures will be reassembled in Wales and used to house locomotives and rolling stock, assuming funding and planning permission can be secured.

The London Bridge area has significant history when it comes to peripatetic building parts. Sections of Old London Bridge can be found dotted around the capital, and the replacement bridge of 1831 was famously shifted over to Arizona in the 1970s.
