Giant Climbing Wall To Open At Truman Brewery

No, you can't use the cherry-picker.

Fancy climbing up a giant crisp? The finishing touches have been made to this monster climbing wall in Ely’s Yard, Old Truman Brewery in Spitalfields. The promoters reckon it’s Britain’s tallest outdoor freestanding climbing wall. It’s also shaped like a massive crinkle-cut crisp, as part of a promotional stunt for a new Walkers line. The wall opens tomorrow (30 August, 12pm-8pm) and will stick around until Wednesday 5 September (Sun-Wed, 12pm – 8pm), assuming no one eats it. The snackish ascent is free.

Why do you link to Facebook pages that are inaccessible to non-members?

Because that’s the only source of information we could find online, and a restricted reference is better than no reference. All the info you need is given in the article above, though.

An outdoor climbing wall. In East London. To promote crinkle-cut crisps. That’s the most ridiculous advertising nonsense I have seen in a very long time. Somebody just made a lot of money out of a stupid idea.

I’d say the opposite, that it’s one of the cleverest bits of advertising I’ve seen in a long while. Kudos to whoever’s behind it for doing something creative that some people will enjoy, rather than just sticking up a billboard.

Just went for a climb, staff was very nice and friendly and above all, gear and climb are for free! It will also host a speed climbing event on sunday, be fast & be furious!

They should be building things like this permanently not just as some PR stunt

Golly, I hope the brewery wasn’t supplying bevvies for the climbers before they started! Alcohol and climbing – not a good combination, I should think! –Jean
