If you’re going to set up a coffee stall you have to find a way to condense your aesthetic message into a very small space. Often it simply boils down to a great looking machine. Giddy Up have achieved this with such aplomb that the coffee almost takes second place. Almost. This is for the coffee geeks. The machine used looks like the carburettor of a 1968 Mustang. It is the only one of its kind in London, a Kees Van de Western, Mirage Veloce, 3-group lever operated machine. It is quite simply magnificent.
Giddy Up have set up on the porch of Floripa (formerly Favela Chic) on the corner of Old Street and Great Eastern Street. The multi-coloured array of seating provided by Floripa is at your disposal, or you can wander over to one of many public benches on the adjoining piazza. Complementary DIY brew bar classes are available from the supremely knowledgeable barista, Lee Harte. Stop for your morning caffeine hit and you may come away with a new skill set, not to mention a lovely cup of coffee.
