Hawksmoor has its third London steakhouse, this one near Guildhall. The newbie resto is keen to get the word out about its breakfast menu and with it’s bloody Mary buffet, “anti-fogmatic” cocktail menu and more, it’s certainly worth a mention. At 15 quid, the Hawksmoor Full English is full on with Plum Pudding bacon, sausage made with pork, beef and mutton, black pudding, fried eggs, hash brown, grilled mushrooms, roast tomatoes, trotter baked beans. Coffee is good. Service is swift and friendly. It’s a busy, masculine and massive space for any meal and probably the best option for a steak and egg morning feast. Hungry for more info? On 16 November to coincide with lighting of the Marleybone High Street festive season lights, Orrery restaurant will host a Beaujolais Cru wine tasting on its terrace and with it the opportunity to discover what the region has to offer beyond Beaujolais Nouveau. Guests will be treated to a selection of the finest Beaujoulais Cru wines including some unusual rosé varieties, accompanied by a canapés from the ground floor épicerie. The event will cost £20 with proceeds going to the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The tasting will begin at 6:30pm and all wines will be selected by head sommelier Shana Dilworth, the host the evening.
London collaborative Parlour Tricks is organising a dinner to celebrate the ancient feast of Martinmas on 11 November. Commencing in a Dalston vault, guests will be led by lantern-light to The Old Boys Club for a sup made by chefs Phillip Granell and Russ Oxtoby, previously of Michelin star restaurant, The Greenhouse. Tankards of Sipsmith cocktails, English wines and London ales will “fire the bellies of feasters, who will dance to live music late into the night.” Tickets cost £55, inclusive of five course dinner with matching wines and after party. Proceeds are going towards cooking a community meal for Dalston charity, Rhythms of life international. Reception will be at 7.30pm, location revealed when booking at www.parlour-tricks.com.
On Wednesday 25 January 2012, La Cucina Caldesi owner and cookery book author Katie Caldesi will hold a half day workshop in support of the Real Bread Campaign to help teachers and school cooks to run Real Bread making classes in their schools.
