DLR Extension To Open 29th August

Via London Reconnections, the Bible of all things transport-related: the long-delayed extension to the Docklands Light Railway is set to open on Monday, 29th August (that's the August bank holiday). LR quotes "sources" for this date, and we've also seen ads on the DLR saying that the extension is "opening soon", which suggests that TfL are confident it'll be up and running shortly.

The extension runs between Stratford International and Canning Town, over the route of a disused rail line on the old North London line that closed in December 2006. It was due to open in the middle of last year, but various complications, including a recurrent problem of signalling cable being pinched from the worksite, have pushed the opening date beyond the original timescale.

The line will have seven new stations, and is aimed at providing additional capacity during the Olympics and an additional route to the new Westfield shopping centre, itself due to open 13th September.
