Free Burritos for Cinco de Mayo at New Chilango on Chancery Lane

From noon to 8pm tomorrow (Thursday 5 May), free burritos will be offered at the new Chancery Lane location of Mexican eatery, Chilango. Along with the freebie food, the restaurant will turn Chancery Lane into an “all day Mexican fiesta” with live music during the afternoon and a party lasting through the evening.  Says Chilango co-founder, Eric Partaker, “The opening of our fifth restaurant on Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the vibrant flavours of our food, as well as the heritage and pride of our Mexican friends. We’re excited about turning Chancery Lane into a big Mexican fiesta, and we invite everyone from the area to experience a stampede of Mexican Flavours.”

Stampede? Perhaps not, but queues of the windingly long variety should be expected. Worth the wait? Well, Londonist certainly didn’t mind filling up on a delicious braised pork burrito this evening at the resto’s VIP opening. Of course, if you find yourself in the area tomorrow and the craving for some comidas Mexicanas proves stronger than your patience, there are at least five others bean slinging, tortilla wrapping spots within a five or ten minute walk – including Chilango’s original Fleet Street location and Daddy Donkey’s Leather Lane trailer.

The latest of five in the Chilango chain is located at 76 Chancery Lane, WC2A 1A. Visit www.chilango.co.uk to learn more.

Thanks for chiming in Joanna. Anyone actually make it to the new Chilango today? How long was the wait?

This was 100% worth the wait. Also had the luck of being next to the crushing of the pinata over the door, resulting in a free meal voucher/sweets scrabble. Work lunch well spent.

Oh, sorry- queued for an hour. Overheard the guy behind the till saying they were estimating clocking up £200 in the first hour, however on the till as I was served they had already clocked up £1,960. This was at 1pm. To estimate, if the queue kept up, they must have given away around £16,000 worth of burrittos!
