Foursquare: Londonist Co-hosts Event To Claim UK’s First Super Swarm Badge

superswarmbadge2.jpg

Attention Foursquare users. Would you like to be one of the first people in the UK to claim the ‘Super Swarm’ badge? This is the accolade received by anyone who’s checked in somewhere at the same time as 249 other people. It’s never happened in the UK. Not yet. So Londonist and @LDN have joined forces with social media and London explorer Chris Pearson in co-hosting an attempt to claim the badge at Jewel Bar, near Piccadilly, on 7 October. Foursquare haven’t put us up to this or anything. We’re genuinely doing it for a laugh and because we enjoy the app and meeting others who use it.

All you need to do is check in at Jewel Bar (4-6 Glasshouse Street) between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday 7 October. If you then present the special offer on the Foursquare app to the bar staff they’ll give you a free glass of something very nice. We can also give you a Londonist badge, but it’ll be of the more traditional aluminium variety.

Never used Foursquare? This is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. It’s free to download and available for most smart phones. Be sure to befriend Londonist.

Let us know if you think you might swing by using the event’s Plancast page. Follow the attempt on Twitter, and with hashtag #superswarmldn.

Hurrah for old skool londonist badges.

(Am taking one of my rare trips outside London next week, so can’t be there, sadly. But it sounds ace!)

Yeah, go on then. I’m getting a bit bored with it otherwise – 30-odd mayorships and my badges have topped out in the early teens (and I’m unlikely to start hanging around playgrounds or gyms just to get new badges)

I assume I automatically qualify for my Swarm badge if I get the Super Swarm?

      30 mayorships? That’s impressive.
Yes, I believe you’ll get both swarm and super swarm.

    30-odd. I’ve just looked, it’s actually 27.

Incidentally, I created checkin spots in Hyde Park for each day of the Hyde Park Calling gigs hoping to get a Swarm badge. It rarely crept over the mid-30s. Hopefully the Jewel thing will be better publicised then my effort

Haha amazing. The thing is I think only the people who check in post 249 users will actually get the badge as otherwise they aren’t actually ‘there’ when it’s a super swarm.

I got swarm at Wireless Festival. And am on 15 mayorships. Obsessed.

I was terribly excited when I read this and immediately checked my diary to see that I could make it to Glasshouse Street at the appointed time. I could!!

Then I stopped and briefly allowed my mind to wonder excatly what I’m doing. Badges? Swarms? Mayors? What am I, 12?

I think I’ve just parted company with foursquare.

would be there but there’s a free screening of “the social network” going on at the same time. sigh

Haha, that’s my feeling also. I never quite got into Geocaching either for the same reason…
