In Pictures: The Secret Bits Of Tower Bridge

You don’t have to be Robert Downey Jr to get a view of London from the heights of Tower Bridge. The walkways along the top are open every day for paying tourists and private functions. The bits with the best views are normally off-limits, however. Last week the City of London Corporation invited us to take a look around the upper levels, as well as offering a snoop in the machinery room. Click through the gallery above for full descriptions.

The little-loved Tower Hotel looks a little more pleasant from above.

    Sorry, but it doesn’t.

I would think they’d keep the Victorian engine room working in case of an outage, it looks so new, and I bet it works.
Love the S. Holmes eye view. Makes me want to find some old photos of the same vantage points before all the modern.

Views are good but only on a nice sunny day, so good for the summer time, not so the usual damp dull winter days, apart maybe when there has been a heavy snow fall, must look magical… Getting camera ready now…

“The little-loved Tower Hotel looks a little more pleasant from above.”

    2,000 feet above perhaps?

it’s a monstrosity whatever angle you view it from!
