Intrepid music journalists that we are, just over a year ago we tipped a hot, unsigned South London talent called Rox. Since then her music has been featured on a Rimmel advert, she's been signed up by the mighty Rough Trade and has prepared an album that's set to make her one of 2010 brightest stars.
To start the hype bandwagon rolling, Rough Trade have just released the above video, filmed at this year's Carnival, of Rox talking about her London roots and preparing for the journey ahead. It was the gentle funk of 'My Baby Left Me' that first got us interested so we're pleased to hear she's stuck with her smooth melodic sounds for her album. Fresh from supporting Raphael Saadiq at Shepherd's Bush Empire on Monday, new central London venue Charlotte St Blues has been announced as the home to a short residency for the new soul star in November. Tickets aren't on sale yet, but Rox will play at 8pm on November 19 and 26th. We can't wait. Pencil them in.
