London Lookalikes: Sherlock Holmes And Vladimir Putin

londonlookalikesputin.jpg

The similarity between the Russian Premiere and Dobby the house elf has been well noted. But a more flattering likeness can be seen on the upper floor of the Sherlock Holmes pub near Charing Cross. Their delightful mock up of Holmes' study includes a Putin-esque effigy of the great detective surrounded by the accoutrements of his trade.

The model dates from the Festival of Britain in 1951 and shows the wax dummy that Holmes placed in front of his window in the Adventure of the Empty House. Those who've read that story will be familiar with the reasons for the bullet hole in the detective's forehead. Similarly, Mr Putin...SENTENCE REDACTED.
