The Tournament is an installation created by Spanish designer Jaime Hayón for the London Design Festival. The gigantic chess set is made of 2m-high ceramic pieces on a specially created mosaic glass chess board. Each of the 32 chess pieces, the designs of which were inspired by London and its history and heritage, were handcrafted by Hayón in collaboration with Bosa, the Italian ceramics experts in Veneto, Italy. The installation is in Trafalgar Square until Wednesday 23 September. The public are encouraged to apply to take part in the games or simply watch and enjoy.
