Gourmet a la Carte Breakfast at Island Restaurant & Bar

IMG_4048[1].JPG

Londonist got thoroughly stuffed last Friday at Island Restaurant & Bar while sampling its new gourmet a la carte breakfast menu. Located directly above Lancaster Gate Tube station on the corner of the Royal Lancaster Hotel (where we’ve dined well before) with Hyde Park in view just across the street, Island offers a comfortable and well situated venue for loading up for a day of active sightseeing.

At £23 for two courses or £27 for three, Island’s a la carte brekkie might not be the cheapest way to start your day, but keep in mind the courses are exceptionally filling and after chowing down you’ll have no need for lunch or afternoon snack (or perhaps even another meal for the rest of the day!). Breakfasts are accompanied with choice of juice, pastries and coffee or tea as well.

If you go, consider ordering the lobster club sandwich (toasted bun with lobster, avocado, lettuce, tomato, Ramsay of Carluke sweet cure bacon and mayonnaise served with roast vine cherry tomatoes). We really enjoyed this massive gourmet sarnie! The buttermilk pancakes with poached pear and honey comb ice cream are well worth contemplation too.

Island Restaurant & Bar’s gourmet a la carte breakfast is available daily from 7am to 10.30am.

Too many articles like this on Londonist these days. Feels like product-placement... :-(

Thanks for the feedback, danb. I wrote the review and will stand by it. We were invited by the restaurant to sample their new a la carte breakfast. It was as described. I really liked the lobster sandwich and the pancakes. If it's in your budget, I recommend it.

Outside of our elected members (who can just charge it to the taxpayer), does anybody in the world whose surname isn't "Mittal" have the budget for a £30 quid breakfast?

DeanN,

I certainly see your point but if ... say ... you wanted to a)splurge, b)skip lunch and c) do a bit of sightseeing, I think a big gourmet breakfast at Island would be worth considering ... or you were looking to woo clients or linger over a Sunday brunch of mega-proportions.
