In Pictures: The Great Spitalfields Pancake Day Races

While many of you spent your lunch breaks gorging on pancakes just because you could, there were a few who decided that some exercise was a flipping great idea before indulging in the sweet or savoury goodness of the humble pancake. The Great Spitalfields Pancake Day race took place on Dray Walk yesterday with a great turn out of the most colourful and bizarre tossers, pancake tossers that is. In teams of four and equipped with a frypan (or a wok in one teams case), the participants relayed back and forth with a run, toss, run, toss momentum. Hilarity was ensured as pancakes went flying, teams crashed into one another and even one determined competitor "spitting out his frypan" as he left his pancake behind. Fancy dress was obligatory and of a rather high standard with the Inflatables winning the best dressed award.
