Shoot & Eat: Mirch Masala

Onion Bhajia

That above is some of the finest onion bhajia that Londonist has eaten. Instead of a dense blob of onion stodge, these were light shreds of onion coated in a gram flour batter and then deep fried. These were eaten at the Mirch Masala in Southall, though they have other branches across London. The Karahi fish tikka masala was recommended to us by the waiter and featured lots of fish in plenty of spicy gravy. The meat biryani was extremely tasty with lots of spice within the dry yet moist basmati rice and some dried fruit too, which was a welcome surprise. Oh, a warning though - the dishes come in three levels of spiciness: mild, medium and hot. And when they say hot, they really really mean it!

nom nom nom.

This post is making me salivate and I'm a good 2 hours away from my next meal. No fair, Chris.

I adore Southall, but my heart belongs to the Hyderabad Restaurant. Though I must admit I may be willing to stray for that bhajia.

Kira,

I wish I could take credit for those yummy pics but they're the work of Sun-Lin.

Not just the photos, the description was rendering me magically famished as well!

there's a branch on Commercial road and until yesterday my best mate lived upstairs. i'd go in and just order onion bhaji. they're AMAZING. not to keen on the rest of the food though - worth noting that their biryani doesn't come with a veggie curry.

I just noticed Mirch Masala on the list of London companies named and shamed by the Home Office for employing illegals. Not that this reflects on the quality of the food.

Siany: That's true - I was surprised by the lack of veg curry. But the onion bhajis.... oh....

paulcox: :( Oh dear...
