Transport for London wants you to ride your bicycle and as usual Londonist is right there to support this idea. The latest push comes by way of the Workplace Cycle Challenge, a campaign encouraging offices to sign up en masse over the month of June to pedal to work. Bringing out that secret (or not so secret) competitive side in all of us, there will be prizes for the company with highest percentage of employees logging their trips, the company with the highest registration of new cyclists, and the company that logs the most miles over a month. The winners will be awarded at a VIP reception at this year’s London Freewheel.

For first time riders who are a bit nervous, the first 150 of you to sign up will have your bravery rewarded with free lessons to get you feeling confident on the roads. Everyone who signs up will automatically be entered to win a £150 voucher to Evans Cycles, and companies that log their weekly progress will be entered to win a further £100 in vouchers.

Londonist especially likes this plan because while there’s an element of competition, there’s still no need to race. Plus it encourages companies to support their employees that ride. And hey, you can call it a team building exercise; it sure beats those weekend retreats.
