Some Of Our Banksys Are Missing

oldskool.jpg

Once is a happenstance, twice is a coincidence, but three times is a conspiracy. First the maid of Chalk Farm is painted over (since restored), then we heard the Rosebery Avenue cash machine stencil has also been defaced. And today, it seems the Clerkenwell Road 'Old Skool' pic has been 'collected'.

The mural had been surrounded by sheeting for a few weeks, so many suspected it was being removed. But who's doing it? Councils? Collectors? Banksy himself trying to stoke up debate (that cut-out stencil is new and looks like his style)?

And this is happening near Old Street.

What's going on?

I don't think the Portobello Road one actually sold, the winner bidded was a bit duff looking at the feedback.
The cashmachine on Rosebery Avenue has just finished on eBay with no bids, and the Barbican rats on Charterhouse Street have recently been completely painted over.
This looks like it's been painted over rather than plastered, the original cracks in the plasterwork that were visible on the Old Skool pic are still visible. The plaster has a real sharp edge to it and appears painted a little above the cutout, which mysteriously appears underneath the 'plaster'. I'm guessing it's just been painted over. There's some more feedback on the Banksy forum site.

The Banksy Forum site now shows a pic taken at lunchtime today, where my image has been painted over in white. Preparing the canvas for a new work perhaps?

I'm pretty sure I remember reading a while back that the 'owners' of the Old Street banksy by the car park had it covered up to protect it from other people's graffiti.

I have seen stickers of that face stencil here in U.S., so I was surprised when I saw it in this picture! After looking at a lot of Banksy's work, I have to disagree that it's his style. His style is more realistic than the face is, IMHO. ???

The face image is by Obey and not a Banksy. The article is about the iconic Old Skool image that has been covered for a few weeks and has now vanished.

The cut out stencil referred to is the dotted line and scissors, which is Banksy style, not the Obey stencil.

A good coverage of the Old Skool removal on
