Mental Note: Don't Forget Umbrella

Londonist loves a good thunderstorm. So we were obviously very pleased with yesterday's storm. But, of course, a thunderstorm is best appreciated from inside a warm, dry building. Those of you who were commuting probably didn't feel the same way about it.

The storm hit at 1700 yesterday evening, and lasted for around 20 minutes. South London was hit the hardest, as there were floods of calls (pun intended) to emergency services in South Wimbledon, Putney, Clapham and Brixton. The downpour of rain and hailstones caused mass havoc and made driving a bit of a challenge for commuters. We hope those of you who were walking either had very large umbrellas or found somewhere to hide from the rain.

Peter Cockroft, a weatherman for BBC London, assures us that we can expect this type of weather anytime:

"The idea of storms, heavy rain, hailstone and thunder being linked to a particular time of the year is really a myth"

Fortunately, according to the BBC website's weather forecast, we should be in for some sunny weather for the rest of the week. You should probably still carry your umbrella with you though. Just to be on the safe side.

About BBC weatherman Peter Cockroft. I'm convinced Londonist changed his style of presentation. Previously, the Kroftster would peer in from the corner of the screen, never allowing a glimpse of his arms or legs.

When we interviewed news reader Matt Barbet, we asked whether Cockroft had any limbs.

Soon after, the avuncular weather chap started appearing with all four appendages in shot.

The power we wield!
