Book Signing: Digitiser's Mr. Biffo, Charing Cross Road

If you played video games in the 90s, chances are that you also read Digitiser, Channel 4's Teletext games magazine. It was renowned not only for its incisive, honest gaming news, but also for the surreal humour of lead writer Mr. Biffo, which was responsible for breaking the brains of teenagers all over the land. Snakes in hoodies would "cuss each other bad" alongside the letters page, Insincere Dave analysed the day's news, and Mr. T made sure that everyone behaved themselves.

Since Digitiser closed down, Biffo, AKA Paul Rose, has been hard at work, penning TV shows as diverse as Sooty and Eastenders. Now, he's back in the spotlight with his new book, Confessions of a Chatroom Freak, which:

"contains the lurid transcripts of genuine conversations between beautiful chatroom addict LoopyLisa21f and a succession of would-be suitors."

Reading the transcripts of Mr. Biffo pestering on-line pervs is horrifying and hilarious in equal measure.

If you haven’t picked it up yet, then buy a copy at the Borders on Charing Cross Road at 6.30pm on Thursday, and you’ll get to see the man himself on the 2nd floor, re-enacting some of his favourite transcripts, along with a signing and a Q&A session. Or, if you feel like causing some mischief, try quoting catchphrases at him that you've made up yourself, like "Don’t touch my loins, Mike!" or "Carrots and peas!", all the while insisting that they were your favourite Digitiser quotes. Mr. Biffo warped our impressionable minds; now it’s time to get even.

Mr. Biffo will read from, and sign copies of, Confessions of a Chatroom Freak on Thursday 21st June at 6.30 at Borders, 120 Charing Cross Road , London WC2H 0JR.
