Your dinner's in the Dog, exclaims the billboard outside. Sadly, ours was not, given that we were only passing through on a pub crawl. But the Dog House was immediately grin-inducing, with its candle-lit wedge-shaped interior. Bustling with punters, even on a Monday night, we found more space upstairs. This high-ceilinged function room is an arty ramshackle of mis-matched furniture and paintings, but served admirably as an informal meetup space for our band of 20 drinkers.
The downstairs bar, meanwhile, is about as chilled and laid-back as could be. Music bounces between swing, steel drum, electronica and dubstep with giddy abandon. The bar itself is vertically carpeted. There's also an excellent ale selection, with six pumps. A decent-sized seating area occupies the pavement outside, with two tables languishing on a traffic island of the busy junction.
