Colindale Tube station will reopen on the afternoon of Friday 20 December*, following a six-month closure.

The Northern line station has been shut since 7 June 2024 for major reconstruction work, including the removal of the existing canopy and staircases, the installation of new staircases — plus a new, larger ticket hall and step-free access.

Since 2011, Colindale's population has surged by a staggering 70%, making the area around the station one of the fastest growing in London. Without these upgrades, says TfL, Colindale station would have reached full capacity by 2026.

But it's far from mission accomplished: passengers will return to a station still very much under construction; the old ticket hall will still be in use, and access to the platforms will be via a temporary passageway.

Construction is expected to wrap up fully in autumn 2025.

Christmas seems to have come early for Northern line users who regularly use stations in north London. Last week it was announced that Kentish Town Tube station will reopen on 23 December, following a prolonged closure due to escalator replacement works.

*TfL hasn't given an exact opening time, although the station will be up and running by peak time PM on 20 December.
