NEW YEAR'S DAY PARADE: Floats from all over the world feature in the New Year's Day Parade, alongside a number of boroughs, bands, schools and car rallies. DISCOVERING LONDON: Pubs, fascinating trivia and infinite wealth — how's that for a banging start to 2019? Discovering London tour guide Peter Berthoud leads a special edition of his Seven Noses of Soho guided walk, which incorporates four interesting pubs stops. Peter will show you the famed seven noses of Soho — believed to bring infinite wealth to anyone who finds them all — plus share some other fascinating trivia as you explore the area. £25, book ahead, 1pm-4.30pm

NEW YEAR CEILIDH: Didn't do enough dancing on New Year's Eve? Get involved in Southbank Centre's New Year's Day Ceilidh, involving folk music, dance and theatrics, with performers from all over the world. Free, just turn up, 1pm

ALL-DAYER: This Hackney pub hosts a chilled all-day event of live music, DJs, drinks and dancing, ideal for staving off a hangover — or keeping the party going from last night. The Star by Hackney Downs, free entry, just turn up, 1pm-1am

NEW YEAR'S DAY PROM: The London Concert Orchestra performs classical music work at Barbican, including Puccini's Nessun Dorma, along with traditional British anthems such as Land of Hope & Glory. £19.50-£44.50, book ahead, 2.30pm
