Have you ever dined inside a nursery rhyme? If you've eaten at the Eagle on City Road, then count yourself included.

The pub is mentioned in the well-known tune Pop Goes the Weasel. Specifically:
"Up and down the City Road, in and out The Eagle; that's the way the money goes, Pop! goes the weasel." For more on how this rhyme came to be associated with the pub, see our feature.

We've been in and out of the Eagle on many occasions. It has a cosy, friendly atmosphere, a handsome interior and one of the few beer gardens near Old Street tube. The food is always excellent, with a menu of pub classics done well. Not a bad place to linger.

The beer choice is the only down side. Nothing more exciting than Proper Job on cask on our most recent visit.
