The words "Green Goddess" will mean different things to different people. Old timers might think of those bulky fire trucks the army used to deploy whenever the fire service was on strike. Younger readers will perhaps picture a healthy salad dish. Even younger readers will invoke Te Fiti from Moana. What we can all agree is that the Green Goddess pub in Blackheath is the greatest in this pantheon.

Self identifying as a beer cafe and microbrewery, the Goddess does indeed pour a magnificent array of brews from its wall of taps, yet it's also something of a community centre: there are board game nights and lampshade making workshops, and kids are more than welcome during the day (an indication of the salubriousness of the area was one young girl celebrating her birthday with an entire Iberico ham at her table). Charlton this ain't.

But when all is said and done, the Green Goddess is also a pub, a goddess of a pub. And you'll be green with envy that it's not your local.
