Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show Is A Flamboyant Feast For The Senses

This is a sponsored article on behalf of Roundhouse.

Dazzling dance, mindblowing circus acts, a thumping soundtrack featuring Madonna, Bronski Beat and Chic — your average fashion show, this ain't.

Welcome to the world of Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show, where runway meets musical revue. It's currently wowing audiences at Camden's iconic Roundhouse, and there are just a few more weeks left to see it.

For those who know a thing or two about fashion, Jean Paul Gaultier needs no introduction. His playfully subversive style earned him the moniker of fashion's 'enfant terrible' and, since launching his self-titled label back in 1980, he's designed countless iconic pieces — perhaps most notable of all is the conical corset worn by Madonna during her 1990 Blond Ambition tour.

Naturally, you can expect plenty of spectacular looks at Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show (think lucha masks, warped pannier hoops, and Breton stripes aplenty).

This isn't just a show for fashion lovers, though. It's a celebration of fifty years of pop culture, as seen through the eyes of a true visionary.

Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show depicts the sensational life of the eponymous designer against a backdrop of social, cultural and political transformation. Along the way, you'll bop along to a brilliant array of bangers — from disco to funk and from new wave to punk.

You can also expect top-tier production values, incredible artistry and a hearty dose of Gaultier's trademark humour.

Sounds good, doesn't it? Don't just take our word for it though: both the Guardian and The Times gave it four-star reviews, with the latter deeming it "ceaselessly inventive… giddy, excessive …a liberating embrace of beauty and difference.”

You'll have to get your skates on if you want to experience it for yourself though: this limited run must end on 28 August.

Tickets to Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show start at £15, but our readers can get top-price seats for £30 using LONDONIST30.

What's more, there are some incredible upgrades available if you fancy the VIP treatment.

Why not treat yourself to a cabaret table seating super close to the stage? It comes complete with table service, and you can choose between welcome champagne followed by wine and a cheeseboard during the interval, or free-flowing bubbles all evening long. How chic is that?

Jean Paul Gaultier's Fashion Freak Show, 7.30pm Tuesday-Sunday at Camden Roundhouse (2.30pm weekend matinees are also available). Until 28 August.
