The Shard will become the UK's tallest timepiece from 30 March.
From the closest hour to sunset through to 1am each morning, the building's top 20 stories — powered by 575 LED units —will flash the number of hours. So for instance, at 11pm each night it will flash 11 times. Think of it like Big Ben's bongs, but visual.
From 1am, the display will transition to a low-power, constant beacon beam, which will shine until daybreak.
The new look for the Shard — which is 309.6 metres tall — comes into effect on Sunday 30 March, when the clocks go forward. The Shard's PR tell us this nightly display will then go on "for the foreseeable".
The Shard is the tallest building in London, although it is not London's highest thing.
