L&Q's London Living Rent Homes Offer An Alternative Way Onto The Property Ladder

This is a sponsored article on behalf of L&Q.

The London housing market is notoriously tricky to get started in, but don't rule out getting a foot onto the property ladder just yet. Consider London Living Rent, a concept designed exactly for people like you, who want to buy their own home, but can't afford to do so... or so they think.

What is London Living Rent?

Funded by the Mayor of London, London Living Rent is aimed at people who are currently renting and can't afford to buy, even via schemes like Shared Ownership. Through LLR, you can rent a home at a reduced rate — sometimes up to 50% less than you'd pay for a similar property on the open market — meaning that the rest of the money you would otherwise be spending on rent can go into your savings, with the eventual aim of purchasing a home.

And when you're ready to buy? You can purchase the property of your choice. That includes LLR property you're already living in — meaning no upheaval, no moving costs, and no tearing yourself away from the place you already call home.

There are a few restrictions — for example, you must live or work in London, and you're not eligible if you already own a property, or have a household income of more than £60,000.

Where can I find London Living Rent?

L&Q  — one of the capital's largest landlord and provider of affordable homes — is a good place to start. They offer London Living Rent Homes all over the capital, including in Walthamstow, Newham, Barking & Dagenham, and Croydon.

Properties range from studios to three-bedroom apartments. Every single one is finished to a high specification, with integrated appliances and open-plan kitchens

London Living Rent with L&Q at Queen's Quarter

Ready to take a closer look at the kind of place you could soon be calling home? As it's located in this year's London Borough of Culture, we're shining a spotlight on L&Q at Queen's Quarter in Croydon.

Here L&Q offers a lovely selection of one to two-bedroom homes (from £1,196.11 per month) overlooking leafy Queen's Garden. Each one boasts private outdoor space in the form of a balcony, plus residents enjoy access to a communal roof terrace with swoon-worthy views of London.

As for the location? L&Q at Queen's Quarter is just an eight-minute walk from Boxpark Croydon, home to an exciting array of street food traders like Big Mike's Calypso Kitchen (Caribbean), Kanji (Korean), and The Argentinian Grill (we'll give you three guesses!) It also hosts all sorts of quirky events, from hip hop karaoke to live wrestling.

But if the bright lights of central London are beckoning, you can simply take a short stroll to East Croydon station and get to London Bridge in as little as 15 minutes, or London Victoria in 20 mins (psst... it's also 15 mins from Gatwick, if you fancy a further-flung adventure!)

Sounds great! But what else is available?
