Meantime Brewing: The Greenwich Brewhouse Leading London's Craft Beer Revolution

With its maritime history, creative undertones and sweeping views, Greenwich isn't short of pioneering spirit. And that translates into its beer too, thanks to the innovative approach of local brewing legends, Meantime Brewing.

Meantime began in a Greenwich flat back in 1999, when young brewer Alastair Hook set out to create great-tasting beers. It's long-since outgrown that flat, but stayed true to its south-east London roots, with a modern brewery and visitor centre in SE10.

With the upgraded premises came the ability to create plenty of new beers — think vibrant tastes made with British malts and the best hops from around the world. In 2021 alone, Meantime has brewed 14 new beers (including four collaborations), and is now offering 440ml cans. Its wide range of beer styles means that Meantime caters for all drinkers.

Tempted? Meantime Brewing's online shop dispatches beers and merchandise across the UK mainland, whether you're after a couple of six packs to share with friends, or you're seriously stocking up for a party. Click and collect slots are also available, giving you the opportunity to pop into the Greenwich premises and see where your beer began. Why not make an afternoon of it with a brewery tour led by a Meantime beer expert, where you can follow the journey from tank to glass, via fermentation, maturation and bottling. Oh, and there's time for a tasting, too...

Meantime has continued its trailblazing spirit in a new project with local-born drummer and jazz musician Moses Boyd, who narrates and stars in a new video, Pioneered in Greenwich. The video goes back to the roots of Meantime Brewing Company, looking at how it harnessed the local passion for innovation to become the creative company it is today. Have a watch:

Meantime isn't stopping there — we've heard rumours of a brand new beer joining its core range in 2022, and plans are afoot to make the taproom, shop and brewhouse even more of a destination spot.

With 20 years of brewing under their belts, and many more to come, now's the time to head over to Greenwich and find out what all the fuss is about. Cheers!
