Sure, your local takeaway's great and all, but it's not going to cut it if you're craving a pretty backdrop to go with that panang curry. Luckily, our friends at Chang Beer have some excellent recommendations for Thai cuisine fiends after a more elevated dining experience.
It's all inspired by Chang's Thai Brews Local Views competition, which gives you the chance to win your dream Thai holiday with the help of a £5,000 voucher, in partnership with Amazing Thailand. And every single one of their picks just so happens to serve Chang's premium and authentic Thai beer...
Thai on the Thames
What's more summery than a waterside feast? The Putney Bridge branch of Thai Square boasts incredible views of the River Thames. There's an outside patio for balmier days but you won't miss out if you prefer to stay indoors — the restaurant's got 180-degree windows so you can people watch over your pad thai. As for the menu? They've got all the classics — think green curry, drunken noodles, and papaya salad, to name but a few.
Feast amongst flowers
Fret not if it's unseasonably chilly or drizzly outside — you can still experience a shot of Thai sunshine at Supawan Thai Food on Caledonian Road. This colourful, foliage-strewn oasis is all about fresh, authentic cuisine from southern Thailand. If you're feeling adventurous, order the khua kling moo, which infuses stir-fried dried minced pork with fiery southern red curry paste. PSA: this one is very spicy, but luckily there are ice-cold bottles of Chang to help to take the edge off.
Thai with a contemporary twist
Prefer a more minimalist aesthetic to pair with your massaman? Head to Kin + Deum on Borough's atmospheric Crucifix Lane. Here, impeccably-presented dishes such as naturally blue lotus butterfly flower rolls and pineapple fried rice (served in a hollowed-out pineapple) are the stars of the show. The decor is tastefully bare-boned — think rattan lighting, natural textures, and a minimalist colour palette.
People watching and creative plates
Located on buzzy Berners Street in the West End, the all-day Greyhound Cafe is a great spot to watch the world go by. If it's sunny out, grab a table on the restaurant's leafy terrace, crack open a Chang (PSA: they serve the big bottles here!) and settle in for an afternoon of people watching while digging into inventive, Bangkok-inspired street food-style dishes. We particularly like the look of the fish sauce-marinated single bone wings...
Thai with tropical vibes
Here's another atmospheric setting for your next Thai feast: the lush terrace of a Grade II listed building in the heart of Stoke Newington. At Yumyum Thai, you can enjoy a vast array of Thai classics, washed down with — you guessed it — Chang beer, from the comfort of your own al fresco beach hut. Who needs Koh Samui, eh?
