While some dinner party invites have you scrabbling for an excuse not to come, here's one that Londoners will be clamouring to attend.
Bompas & Parr — the gastronauts behind such things as a 'breathable' cocktail bar and a journey through The Complete History of Food — have announced their latest venture, and it's set to put foodies in a spin. Hosted at Space House — Richard Seifert's Jetsons-esque confection located just off Kingsway — the Gastrolabe is a revolving dinner party, in which your dinner companions constantly change.
At the experiences — running on 3, 6, 7 and 8 November 2026 — guests can admire 360-degree views from the 14th floor of the Grade II-listed high-rise, before joining a three-course dinner at a 51-person table. Said table is made up of three independently revolving sections, meaning that every time you look up from your plate, you could be facing someone new. Presumably the mechanics moves at a speed gentle enough to allow dinner to remain firmly inside your stomach.
The name 'Gastrolabe' is a riff on the an instrument once used to chart the heavens — doubly fitting, given not only Space House's name, but its former life as HQ of the Civil Aviation Authority.
"At its heart," runs the marketing spiel, "the Gastrolabe is an experiment in conviviality. Rather than determining who you spend an evening beside, the table continually reorganises the social landscape, using movement to generate new meetings, conversations and perspectives."
Sounds ideal for meeting new people... and escaping any awkward conversations.
