It's not that there's no interesting soft drinks in pubs that puts me off, it's that by volume they're usually more expensive. If I want a pint of lemonade (or a bottle of something genuinely tasty that's all of 275 ml), it often costs more than a pint of beer. How on earth is that rational?

It's called high taxes on alcohol and tobacco goods. Better having to pay more for a beer than paying more on income tax or vat on food or clothes like in other countries I won't name here. Soft drinks are more expensive in pubs because they sell less and landlord pay more because they buy them in fewer amount.
