5 Reasons Why You Should Go To The Other Art Fair

Londonist is proud media partner to The Other Art Fair 2016.

If you think of art fairs as exclusive events for collectors with very expensive artworks you probably can't afford, then you should try The Other Art Fair.

Hosting its 11th edition at Bloomsbury's Victoria House this April, this four-day event will make you revisit your concept of art fairs.

Here are five reasons why you shouldn't miss it.

1. Show your support to London's emerging artists

Since it started in 2011, the fair has been a springboard for emerging artists. Throughout the fair, these artists are on site selling their own work directly to visitors. Not only do you get to meet the artist, there's no middleman when it comes to price. For the first time, the April edition will feature London Futures — a curated showcase of artists who have never been exhibited in the capital before.

2. Londonist readers get 50% off tickets

Yep, that's right. You can get half price tickets throughout the whole weekend by quoting the code LONDONIST when booking. This way your entry ticket will cost about the same as a pint!

3. Enjoy a meal inspired by Martin Parr

Renowned photographer Martin Parr is famous for documenting British society through his satirical photos. Being the guest artist at this edition of the fair, you can get the chance to join a photo-culinary experience inspired by his latest book Real Food — with a menu that puts exact Parr photographs on your dinner plate. Tickets cost £40 and include a 4-course meal, a complimentary cocktail and unlimited entry into the fair: there's limited availability so make sure you book in advance.

Beyond this, there will be performances by conceptual artist Sarah Maple, screenings of award winning shorts from the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, artist talks, children's activities and food and drink pop-ups to refresh you while snooping around.

4. See world-famous artists

Previous editions saw VIP artists such as Gavin Turk and Tracey Emin participating and releasing special price artworks exclusive to the fair. This year's hot list includes fine art photographer Gina Soden, painter Bridget Davies and eclectic artist Dan Hillier — although the spotlight is on acclaimed British photographer Martin Parr. He will be on site signing his latest book Real Food and will collaborate on a pop-up fine dining experience inspired by his photography.

5. Discover the beautiful Victoria House

The venue is the stunning Grade II listed building, which represents a neoclassical landmark in one of London's most historically rich areas. The Other Art Fair will bring a wave of contemporary art into this elegant 1920s palace — an unusual contrast not to be missed.

The Other Art Fair runs from 7-10 April 2016 at Victoria House, Southampton Row, WC1A 2QP. Standard tickets are £8.80/£6.60 and can be booked in advance online. Londonist readers get 50% off standard tickets, offer not valid for special events connected to the fair.
