Tickets go on sale today for ZSL London Zoo's Gir Lion Lodge experience, a chance to spend the night next to a pride of Asiatic lions, and experience the Regent's Park zoo after hours.

The lodges are being built as part of ZSL's new £5.2 million Land of the Lions exhibit, due to open to the public next spring and giving the lions five times more space than their previous enclosure offered.

Visitors to the lodge will stay in one of nine private cabins. On arrival, they'll be served an evening meal before being given an evening tour of the zoo and some of its 17,000 residents. After spending a night in the en-suite lodges, it's breakfast time, before an early morning zoo tour — one of the best times to see the animals at their most active (and vocal).

The lodges will be open six nights a week from May to December in 2016 with designated family and adults-only nights. At prices from £378 per couple, it's not the cheapest experience in London, but it's comparable with other zoos and wildlife parks which offer similar experiences.

The name of Gir Lion Lodge comes from India's Gir Forest, where the world's last remaining population of wild Asiatic lions lives. Funds raised from this experience will go towards ZSL's conservation projects around the world.

Tickets go on sale today. Book online here. Want another way to help the ZSL Asiatic Lions campaign? Sponsor a tile in the Majestic Mosaic which will form part of the Land of the Lions exhibit.
