Video: The Pageantmaster Of The Lord Mayor’s Show On The Ghost Parade

This fascinating film made by Andrew Spicer features an interview with Dominic Reid, the Pageantmaster of the Lord Mayor’s Show as he undergoes a midnight rehearsal for the big event — a dry run known as the Ghost Parade.

Reid has been organising the show for the last 23 years and here reveals some intriguing trivia including the origins of the 800 year old event, the craftsman who made the Lord Mayor’s gilded coach, plus the significance of some of the pageantry and traditional clothing still worn to this day. This year the Lord Mayor's Show is on 14 November.

Pedant's corner: in this video the Pageantmaster gets the coach's date of origin slightly wrong: it was actually built in 1757.
