Video: How To Avoid Swearing At The Phrase 'Card Clash'

The launch of contactless payment on public transport yesterday means the dreaded phrase "card clash" may fast be entering your regular vocabulary — alongside some rather more spicy language.

We headed over to Canary Wharf station for the launch of the new system, to find out more about how it works, whether it's likely to replace Oyster — and how to avoid getting charged two penalty fares.

Wallets come with tin foil now to help avoid clash. Also can use foil backed business card, or just glue a bit foil in ya wallet.

What was wrong with Oyster? Why over-complicate things? That's still leagues ahead of what some other cities offer. I live in New York and they still have crappy, wafer-thin card that you have to slide through the scanner at *exactly* the right speed.

I'd rather have a separate travel card, but clearly I'm in the minority. OK, how do you buy say, a week-long pass using this method..? And given how many people will doubtless be charged twice, no matter how fool proof the system is claimed to be...yeah, I still call that "over complicating things".
