Free Film Festival Animates New Cross, Deptford And Herne Hill

During the last couple of years FreeFilmFestivals.org has been organising very popular free cinema festivals in south London, totally supported by volunteers. They're back, and over the next month you can enjoy free screenings in New Cross, Deptford and Herne Hill.

New Cross and Deptford - 25 April-4 May

The festival kicks off on Friday 25 April. The programme includes over 30 films covering a wide variety of genres, including drama, comedy, historical, action and documentary. The venues are also varied. You might watch a movie in a pub, a school, in a Caribbean shop, inside Goldsmith's college and even on a hill.

All the events are free and with no booking required, you can just turn up, even if some venues suggest an early arrival to avoid disappointment. Weekends have a richer programme of screening than weekdays.

Herne Hill - 2 May-31 May

Herne Hill Festival runs for a longer period but with fewer screenings. The Festival also makes use of unusual venues, such as Brockwell Park, Brockwell Lido, Herne Hill Velodrome and Station Square. This year, the festival includes a 48 hour filmmaking competition, taking place 3-5 May. You can decide whether to get properly involved and bring your own cinema creations or just enjoy a good film.

As with New Cross & Deptford Free Film Festival, all the events are free, with no booking required.
