Al Fresco Music, Theatre And Film At The More London Free Festival

The More London Free Festival in the Scoop (that concrete amphitheatre next to City Hall) is always a popular one.

This year's programme looks as exciting as ever; if you haven't been down to More London yet this summer, you've missed some of the early sessions in comedy and theatre. But often the early June dates serve as a warm-up to the best of the festival: July's free music, August's free theatre, and September's free film screenings.

In July, look out for free music concerts every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from groups including Choirs from Music in Offices featuring the Norton Rose Fulbright Choir (2012 winners of Office Choir Of The Year Competition), The Ronnie Scott’s Rejects, Fallen Heroes and The AllStars Collective.

In August, the award-winning London's Free Open Air Theatre Season (previously known as Steam Industry Free Theatre) presents The Thebans directed by Phil Willmott; two fully staged productions inspired by the ancient Greek city of Thebes. Again, running Wednesday to Friday you can see a free production of Prince of Thebes at 6pm (aimed at families), followed by a more adult play called Oedipus and Antigone at 8pm.

And finally, in September, the Scoop is transformed into a free cinema. On this year's programme are relative new releases Skyfall, Les Miserables and Amour, alongside classics like The Birds, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, and Back To The Future.

As we said, it's all free, so you can just show up. It's wise to get there early for popular performances as spaces sometimes fill up fast. Also: don't forget to wrap up and take something to sit on. We're fans of the Scoop's brutalist concrete aesthetic, but it can be a bit uncomfortable at times.

The More London Free Festival runs at The Scoop, More London Riverside, London, SE1 2DB until 27 September. Visit to find out more.
