Gig Preview: Celebration Of Life @ Royal Festival Hall

Uplifting music and awesome talent underpin an inspirational bill for the Met Black Police Association's (MBPA) Celebration of Life concert.

The annual gig highlights the Revival initiative which aims to spread a message of peace, addressing and reducing violent crime, particularly amongst young people.

The concert takes place at the Royal Festival Hall — a high profile, fabulous public building that no-one should feel excluded from — and the performers are predominantly black British artists. The music spans different genres but all artists and musicians involved support what Revival stands for; that life is precious and family and community are important and to be celebrated.

The first half features a multi-talented line-up including saxophonist Jason Yarde, South London reggae singer Peter Hunnigale, hip-hop artist Donae'o and the wonderful London singer and cellist Ayanna.

Headliners, Naturally 7, do astonishing things with their voices, creating the sound of an entire band where there is none. Expect a mix of beat boxing, basslines and instrumental imitation with rap and soul, pop and jazz. Check them out performing on Argyll Street for BBC London.

Get to the Southbank early and you'll find a free showcase of London's most talented young performers presenting poetry and song in the Clore Ballroom from 5.30pm.

Celebration of Life 2012 takes place at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday 19 October at 7.30pm. Tickets from £10.
