Quick, name the first five things that pop into your head when you see the words "East London". If fashion is one of them, good for you. If not, it really should be, as East London plays a major role within London's fashion industry.

Tomorrow is Fashion Day at Hackney House, a pop-up venue on Shoreditch High Street, opposite the Tea Building. Expect workshops and demonstrations on topics ranging from Hackney's first-class fashion education and training to manufacturers, tailor-made business support and digital marketing. Moreover, we're promised fashion films; an installation from set designer Robert Storey showcasing work by Christopher Raeburn, Sibling and Matthew Miller; a demonstration of sustainable garment production by The North Circular and their team of knitting grannies; and popular shop Here Today, Here Tomorrow will teach you how to build a business on personalised production. Also, and intriguingly, a major announcement about the fashion industry in Hackney will be made on the day.

Breathless yet? We haven't even mentioned the opportunities for boozin' and schmoozin', the performance by Mercury-nominated Polar Bear and a DJ set from Dalston Superstore's Mikki Most. Go on, check out the full programme here, and while you're there, apply for one of 300 free tickets. There are limited edition Richard Nocill tote bags and other goodies for every visitor. And a directional haircut everywhere you look.

Fashion Day is at Hackney House, 186 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6HU on Thur 2 August 2012. The event runs 12 noon till 11.30pm, and entrance is free but prebooked. Image by M@.
