App Review: London Crowd

As you've probably gathered by now, getting around town over the next couple of weeks is going to be a challenge. A new iOS app, London Crowd, helps to ease the potential pain by showing you which bits to avoid.

The app pulls in data from traffic cameras to form a heat map showing the congestion hotspots in real time. Data can be filtered by pedestrians only, or pedestrians and cars, and you can also easily bring up a live image from any of the 350 traffic cameras that the app monitors. In fact this is probably more useful than the heat map, as it gives you an instant snapshot of how the situation is looking at any point across town.

London Crowd also pins the location of every Olympic event onto the map, although this isn't without minor teething problems: the timing of today's opening ceremony is incorrectly listed as 19.30 - 22.30.

While it probably won't revolutionise your Olympic travel experience, London Crowd is a useful thing to have at hand. Download it for free today; from tomorrow it'll cost 69p. An Android version is also in the works.
