Entrance is free to Eltham Palace this weekend as the historic home of Henry VIII opens its doors to London festival fever.

Under the separate banners of the Greenwich Festivals, Big Dance and the London 2012 Festival, the attraction is offering a spectacular afternoon of free dance, theatre, music and circus from around the world.

You can see dance performances by artists from Slovenia, Austria, Croatia and Hungary as well as Greenwich Dance’s award-winning resident company Protein. Look out for the latter’s new open-air performance called, appropriately, The Picnic, by four dancers and an acoustic musician.

As well as the dance, you can see cabaret acts on the Southern Lawn, take part in a tea dance in the Great Hall and hear live music from a gypsy caravan. There’ll be more pop-up performances throughout the grounds.

If you needed an excuse to head out to SE9 this weekend, we think this could be it.

The World Cultural Festival is at Eltham Palace, Court Yard, Greenwich, SE9 5QE from 12.30 to 4.30pm on Sunday 1 July. Visit www.elthampalace.org.uk to find out more.
