Club Watch: Jimmy Edgar & Kyle Hall @ Hidden

With two legends in the making from Detroit and a platter of exciting UK producers, Hidden's lineup this Friday sees the Vauxhall venue continuing to set the bar for exciting electronica.

Just be careful bringing mothers, daughters or generally anything with a pulse along —  Jimmy Edgar is in the house. The Detroit producer-cum-fashion-photographer carries the sleaze funk flame lit by creeps like Prince and The Egyptian Lover, while deeply informed by the techno heritage of his hometown. A recent move to Scuba's Hotflush label hasn't calmed him down one bit, only deepening his decadent blend of vocodered vocals, skeletal electro and noctural synth pulses. New tracks you might hear tonight include "Sex Drive", "In Deep" and "Touch Yr Bodytime", lest we forget this is the guy best known for this track "I wanna be your STD".

Kyle Hall is a new producer already ranked among Detroit's greats. While still only 21, to listen to his music you'd be convinced he graduated from Belleville in the 70s. Heading up his own Wild Oats label Kyle, makes clasically grooving techno, a sound imbued with his sensually cosmic vibe. While rated by the elite of Detroit's history he is no mere revivalist, with forward-thinking releases on Hyperdub and remixes for new talents Motor City Drum Ensemble, Space Dimension Controller and Floating Points. Come down to see a legend in the making.

There's more! Bubbling under bass label 2nd drop showcase a couple of names, South London Ordnance currently making waves with his "Sanctuary" release, which reminds us of Martyn's early tech-heavy bass singles, and DjRUM, who grafts an organic ambience to his mainroom techno sound. Polish pair Catz N Dogs and UK house heads Tom Demac and Ste Roberts complete a big night at London's new bastion of beats.

Glass Table with Jimmy Edgar, Kyle Hall & Catz N Dogz at Hidden, SE11 5EQ, Friday 29th June. Tickets and information are available here.
