Dance Around London: January 2012

Resolution! at The Place
This annual season of brand new dance is the perfect antidote to the Christmas holidays. Over 70 works are presented in nightly-changing triple bills from emerging choreographers. You'll find the strange, the surreal, the avant-garde and ridiculous, occasionally the beautiful and gob-smacking and sometimes the downright awful. Seek out the gems and be prepared to be challenged. From 6 January - 17 February, tickets £14 (discounts available).

Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House
Kicking the froth of the Nutcracker out of the House is the tragic classic — Kenneth MacMillan's first full-length work for the Royal Ballet to the much-loved score by Prokofiev. On 10, 12, 13, 16 and 19 January. Tickets from £6 - call the box office for returns and info on tickets available on the day: 020 7204 400.

Strictly Gershwin at The Coliseum
Razzmatazz fills the stage thanks to English National Ballet and their celebration of the music of Gershwin and the golden age of Hollywood. 4-15 January, tickets from £10.

Psssst... Want to get close to the dancers? Skate at Somerset House is running Big Ice Dance Lunchtime Workouts with them and will teach you an ice dance to Come Strike Up The Band.

Midnight Tango at Aldwych Theatre
Appease your post-Strictly Come Dancing blues with a red hot night of Tango fantasy courtesy of Vincent, Flavia and Arlene Phillips. From 20 January for 10 weeks, tickets £21-£56 (you might nab bargain seats with Get Into London Theatre).

Men in Motion at Sadler's Wells
Let's hear it for the boys as former Royal Ballet principal, Ivan Putrov, presents an evening of dance where we can all appreciate the male form in motion. On 27-29 January, tickets £12-£45.
