Tomorrow: Banksy Truck Comes To The Cumberland Hotel

With London’s art world warming up for next week’s big Frieze Art Fair, folks at The Cumberland Hotel have told us about this arty little stunt tomorrow.

Pop down to Old Quebec Street behind the hotel between 8am and 2pm, and you’ll be able to see a unique Banksy "installation" parked outside. It’s an articulated lorry, fully stencilled by the elusive artist.

The truck is there to raise awareness of the Urban Contemporary Art exhibition currently running inside The Cumberland.

If you’ve got a spare £30 grand, you might want to mosey along to the art auction taking place on Monday 10 October. On sale are eight works by Banksy, as well as items from Eine, French stencil king Blek Le Rat, and graffiti artist D*Face. Top billing goes to Banksy's limited edition spray paint and emulsion work, Mosquito (estimate £30,000-£50,000).

We can't help thinking it's an odd collaboration: posh Marble Arch hotel, and a bunch of graffers. But when you look at the prices these pieces are going for, perhaps it makes sense for big name street artists to step off the pavement and into London's swankier institutions. It's where the money is.

The Banksy Truck will be in Old Quebec Street, London, W1C 1LZ (behind The Cumberland Hotel) tomorrow, 6 October, from 8am to 2pm. Visit www.guoman.com/urban_contemporary_art_and_luxury_sale for more details.
