Preview: Art Saves Lives @ Leicester Square Theatre

A huge, free showcase of performing talent comes to Leicester Square Theatre on 22 August.

First up, musically inclined 13-19 year olds get the chance to perform courtesy of a collaboration between Art Saves Lives and record label BeatCircle. Five acts will be picked via live auditions and submitted tapes to perform at the BeatCircle London Sound event. The show will kick off at 7pm and it should be a packed audience, including industry professionals. The ultimate winning act, selected by a public vote - will also get studio time with BeatCircle.

At 8.30pm, the main event takes over with a roster of diverse talent, most of it brought from the margins of society to the west end stage by Art Saves Lives. The line up includes amazing beat poet Jazzman John Clarke, singer/songwriter Leon Fender Walker, Deptford band 'The Light Catches', vocal quintet Apollo 5, up and coming Essex band Amoriste, Alter Ego street dance and a compere in the shape of actor, Jud Charlton.

The whole night of entertainment is free and kids of all ages are welcome. To get your name on the guest list and secure your rather comfy red Leicester Square Theatre seat email dean@artsaveslives.co.uk now.

There's much talk to come about anti-social youth and how to engage with and involve them and bring peace to our streets. Art Saves Lives don't get much press, they operate on a shoestring, making use of whatever venues and resources they can. They are dedicated to finding space for any artist, musician, poet or writer who feels - for whatever reason - marginalised by society, to help them to find and share their voice in a constructive and creative way.

Founder, Dean Stalham, has drafted a letter for anyone to forward to their MP ahead of Thursday's Parliamentary debate about the London riots.

And while you're thinking about that, if you didn't see it yesterday, have a read of what Kids Company's Camila Batmanghelidh had to say from her 'street level' position.

Art Saves Lives is at Leicester Square Theatre is on Monday 22 August at 7.30pm. It is free but you must email for guestlist. Kids and families are very welcome!
