Smile For London Launches On Monday

Smile for LondonWith the most depressing Monday approaching there's hardly a flicker of cheer to be had on the tube. Yet as of Monday, watch out for Smile for London cheering up January with artistic interventions on those London Underground video screens, injecting a dash of creativity into your dreary commute and hopefully making you smile.

Established artists were invited to create 20 second silent films to uplift and inspire commuters. An open competition attracted hugely impressive submissions from aspiring film makers. This video, 'Spreadsheet Invasion' by Amy Thornley, was selected by a panel of judges as the overall winner. And no wonder; who hasn't wanted this to happen to a spreadsheet at some point:

The Smile for London campaign will run from the 17 – 28 January 2011 on weekday mornings and evenings during the rush hour commute. A daily schedule of stations, platforms and artists will be available on the website on Monday.
