Preview: Crystal Palace Children's Book Festival

CPChildrensBookFest2010.jpg There's a day of completely free events for children in Crystal Palace this Saturday. Workshops at Upper Norwood Library are around 45 minutes long where your little ones can learn about illustrating (including comics and manga) from people like Garen Ewing and Derek the Sheep's Gary Northfield - finishing with a near two hour Halloween special, as Steve Feasey, Alexander Gordon Smith, Sam Enthoven, Sarwat Chadda and Alex Bell take on the best of horror.

Over at the lovely Bookseller Crow bookshop, there's a range of authors to fascinate all ages. Under fives will love meeting Lerryn Korda (Little Nye), Karen Wall and Jim Helmore of the Stripy Horse books, and Sarah McIntyre, creator of Morris the Mankiest Monster and more. Older kids will be more interested in Guy Bass (Dinkin Dings and the Frightening Things), CT Furlong (Arctic 6), Mousehunter author Alex Milway with his new series about awesome Yetis, Jon Mayhew and a tale perfect for Halloween, and the wonderful performance poet Laura Dockrill.

Festival organisers have also been going into schools to make a Monster Book - because we all know about Crystal Palace's dinosaurs - which will be available to buy on the day. This is a fabulous festival and we recommend you reserve your tickets now to avoid tears on the day.

The Crystal Palace Children's Book Festival is Saturday 23rd October, 11am-4pm, at Upper Norwood Library and the Bookseller Crow on the Hill. Tickets to all workshops and author events are free. See the Festival website for more details.
